Requirements of an E-portfolio

What existing use is your institution making of e-portfolio, if any? If not what would be your requirements of an e-portfolio?

    we use pebblepad in a limited project with work based learners. I would like something integrated in the VLE (!) but also portable - for student to continue after programme ends.
